You know a wise man once told me "love...don't come eeasssyy." Seriously, truer words have never been spoken. Every now and then I have those really odd "I'm the host of The Bachelor/Bachelorette" weeks. This week has been one of them. It started off trading texts and tweets with Trista (we're way too cool to just talk on the phone, that's so '08). Got a nice call from Jason Mesnick and caught up with him and Molly. They're doing great, by the way. Then I get a call from my old friend Byron. He and Mary are alive and well, still engaged, and doing great as well. I had my weekly talk with Jillian about life, love, and this week's episode. Then my wife and I were out to dinner and ran into Juan. He told me he's ready to dish at the Men Tell All special. Then we stopped by a party only to run into DeAnna and Holly. Oh...and to top it all off, the family and I were having dinner with the Firestones this week. Like I said, just one of those weeks, but it's also one of the things I truly love about hosting this show. I've formed some wonderful friendships that will endure long after the cameras are turned off. Hey, Guiney, give me a call, man! Before I jump into hometown visits and this week's episode, I want to clear up the schedule from here on out because more than a few of you seem to be confused. As you know we are now down to our final four. They are taking off for a week in Spain, but this is not the typical "exotic date" location. That will come the week after. The finale for this season will be Monday, July 27, followed by an After the Final Rose special on Tuesday night July 28. Hope that helps your party planning.

Now, let's get down to business because we have much to discuss. I would just skip to the dessert and Wes' hometown date but then I'd get grief for skipping over the other guys, so we'll give them their due...kind of. One thing you didn't see on Jill's date with Reid was at the condo when she dropped a full bottle of champagne and it smashed on the floor. She said she was a bit nervous. Before Jillian met Reid's grandmother he warned Jillian that she could be a little cranky and that she isn't that easy to talk to. They hit it off immediately and you couldn't separate the two of them. Reid's hometown was great. Jillian loved every minute of it and I think it's clear to see why he got a rose this week. Their relationship gets better and better each date.

Moving on to Valencia, Calif., and Michael. I'm guessing as you're reading this blog there is no shortage of women who are madly in love with Michael...or his twin brother. By the way, Jillian was impressed with herself that she didn't fall for the ol' identical twin swap one bit. Jilli told me Michael had everything she was looking for in a man but they just didn't have that romantic connection. She also said if there's one guy on the show she would like to help find love it's Michael. I think we could all tell there was just something missing between them. That's too bad because he's a great guy and handled himself with extreme class. One last note on Michael's hometown: When Jill was leaving she was holding a plate. That was a plate of cookies not leftovers.

Kiptyn's parents started their visit by teasing Jillian about her hot tub scenes. For the record, Jill is not ashamed whatsoever about her hot tub time and thought it was really funny that Kiptyn's parents gave her a hard time about it. One thing I continually notice about Jillian when she's around Kip is that she's always wondering if she's good enough for him instead of vice versa -- an interesting dynamic between them that we'll have to keep an eye on. Jesse's hometown date in Carmel was good and for the most part uneventful. The only hitch was that somewhere along the way Jillian had all her personal jewelry stolen. So if you're wondering what to get her for her birthday or Christmas, I suggest jewelry. The best part of Jesse's hometown was his brother. When he asked Jill if she and Jesse had been naked together her reaction was priceless. Jesse ends up going home and I doubt many of you were shocked by this. Their relationship was always a little strange. It's hard to put your finger on it but watching them together I just never saw "it."

Okay, I paid my dues. I talked about the other guys; now let's eat dessert together...let's talk Wes! So Wes decides the first people he wants to introduce Jillian to are his band members. We learn about the new CD and that his ultimate goal in life is for this CD to do well. Wes also shares with us that no drug, no woman can make him feel like he does when he's on stage. Ladies, the line forms to the right. I can't wait to read your comments this week about Wes. As if things weren't awkward enough with the band once again proclaiming "love...don't come eeeasy" everybody's favorite airline pilot, Jake, decides to drop in on Jillian and give her a little news. Not only does Jake tell Jillian about Wes' girlfriend but he tells Jill her name is Laurel...that's it. He's finally going down now...game, set, match, right? Wrong. Wes turns on the Texas charm and two-steps right out of this mess. I'm saying right here and now that I'm not responsible for anything that was thrown at your TV. Was it just me or did anybody else think Wes sounded just like Bill Clinton telling us "I did not have sexual relations with that woman!" Wes never even flinches when Jake strolls in and even gives him a little shot when he opens the door and says "well, Jake...man of character." When Jillian decides she's seen and heard enough, she says goodbye to Jake and he proceeds to start crying on the railing or what we like to call in the biz, gives us his best Jason. On a scale of 0-Jason, I give this railing cry about a 5.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on Jake's decision to show up and tell Jillian the truth. I have mixed emotions about it. Jillian decides ultimately that Wes is telling the truth and this is confirmed in her mind when she meets his family. According to Wes' sister, this happens to Wes quite a lot. Apparently there are many who are just jealous of all that Wes possesses. Jillian finally recovers from her hometown dates and is preparing for the rose ceremony when there's a knock at the door. Ed is back. Jillian was obviously happy about his return but she was also very hesitant to give him a rose. She had feelings for Ed but they hadn't had that much time together. She wasn't sure if their relationship was as strong as it was with some of the other guys. As you saw, much to the chagrin of Michael, Ed strolled into the rose ceremony and back into Jillian's heart.

As you saw in the previews for next week the drama with Wes is far from over. Jillian is now down to her final four guys and things really kick up a notch from here on out. I leave you with this thought to ponder til I talk to you again next week: "Some say love it don't"...I can't do it to you again. I will tell you this though, no drug, no woman makes me feel as good as this blog does.

Chris! You don't know how many times i sing that "They say love...it don't come eeeeeaaaassssy" everytime the show comes on!!!!! Hilarious!!!! Wes is ridiculous and i just really really hope that Jill figures it out at some point but i am worried what it is going to take to make her see it if this wasn't enough.

Losing respect for Jillian every week she keeps Wes around... red flag alert, red flag alert.

Chris, you need to ask Michael to be the next bachelor!! He was so sweet when he was let go! And I think it was good that Jake came back to tell Jillian about Wes. If you care about someone you don't want them to be hurt. But is Wes really as much of a jerk as we are seeing???? Can't wait till next week's blog!

Why is she so blinded by Wes??? How could she not believe Jake??? Jake is a very honest person and Wes is just a snake!

They say nice guys finish last, then whats to be said about nice guys caring enough to put themself through what Jake did and try and talk some sense into Jillian and then have it backfire on him? So Chris, you say you have mixed emotions on Jake showing up and telling her, curious what your feelings are on it. Mine are it shows that Jakes a real caring person and when someone does wrong he's willing to put himself out there and step up to the plate, which none of the other guys such as Tanner were willing to do. It seemed Jake cared more about Jillian and he said he couldn't live with himself if she picked Wes and noone had the guts to warn her ahead of time. I was so angry that he weaseled his way back into Jillian's heart, shows what a con artist he is. The thing that angered me most is how Jake was played out as a guy that lost the girl and now wants to make trouble. I can only imagine what Jillian feels seeing it now. It's unfair to judge Jillian based on what we've seen so far, as she would have let Wes go long ago had she been able to hear and see what we did. As a mother of a girl Jillian's age, I only wish a man like Jake would come through my door, he has character and is a real gem. Wes is one bad boy that will finish last, not only do I believe he won't get Jillian, but I think the publicity he wanted will not turn out to be positive for him from this show.

I am really beginning to wonder how much screening even goes into how these bachelors and bachelorettes are chosen. Really, how can the production managers even allow a guy like Wes to say he does not care about getting the girl and only about getting his CD sold? Really, this whole show has become a sham. And allowing Ed back on after two weeks? This is not fair, and Michael's face showed it. Right now Michael seems like the only genuine person on the show. And now he's gone! His feedback after being let go was truly heartfelt, and too bad, Jillian did not see it. I think she may have had second thoughts if she knew he had indeed fallen in love with her. I have even lost respect for poor Jillian. She presented herself much better on The Bachelor. She's barely articulate now. She seems to only be basing her choices on sexual energy or something, and Wes lost all of his appeal after the first few weeks. The whole thing seems staged to me now. With Wes always showing up with guitar in hand after Jillian let each of those younger guys go. And now Ed coming back. Ed's little spiel seemed forced and rehearsed. Come on, why would the producers even allow such a thing?!? I told myself if Jillian picks Wes again, I am out of here. But I may still read your blog, Chris. Tell the producers to quit playing us for fools. I was so enjoying this show until the last few episodes. Now the whole show makes me sick to my stomach. Quit the forced plot twists, and bring back old-fashioned romance!

My vote is for JAKE for next season's bachelor. Still don't know what Jillian was thinking on that one . . . So many of us think he was the one and we saw sparks. I wish he could have at least made hometown date. Just get madder and madder each week she keeps Wes.

I absolutely feel that Jake put himself out on a limb to help this woman he cares about, with no benefit to himself. I felt bad for him that Jillian couldn't tell who was telling the truth, and thought his emotions after the fact were very real. It was difficult and ultimately a bit humiliating for him to do that for her. It showed exactly how much integrity he has, and made me feel all the more that I'd love to see him find love on the next Bachelor show.

Guess what? Jillian is a big girl and can make her own decisions.....Wes or otherwise. She is the one that will have to live with the decision she makes. Understand that we all see only a small part of what goes on between the participants so everyone needs to get over it and watch or don't watch the rest of the show. Speed dating has its risks.

I am in love with Michael. I'll just put it right out there. Please please please make him the next bachelor. Yeah, I know, Jake is a super sweet guy and totally deserves to find the right girl. But here's the thing--there are some people in life that I think could really end up with any number of people, and be perfectly happy and content and find true love with any of them. Jake is one of them. Michael, I think, is someone that has ONE true love. ONE person that will fit perfectly with who he is and what he wants out of life. And seeing him go on that journey as Bachelor would be amazing, not to mention that he himself is a much more...captivating person than Jake (I think.) Jake is such a "catch" that some girl is going to make him very happy, but I think Michael needs something more.

Also, I don't really understand what Jillian's problem was with Michael's age? Of all the guys, he was a guaranteed "Marriage" ticket, and would probably give her the "kids in 5 years plan" more than anyone else. I mean, she had to ask Wes "After all of this, would you consider at least dating me?" Wow, what is she in this for?

Anyway, back to the show...
From day one, I've never understood what Jillian sees in Wes. I don't really get how that stupid song melts her heart. And he's so unaffectionate with her, and practically demanded that he "didn't want to ever say ever again that he's here for the right reasons"! I don't see why she isn't totally turned off? I just don't get it.

I was a total Jillian fan and was so sad when she left the bachelor. But now...well...I think she's a super sweet and charming girl but I just don't have very much respect for someone who gets swept away by such silly, insubstantial things as a ridiculous song. There's no way that she'll pick him in the end, I'm sure--because her interview in OKAY! said she was doing really well and was really happy and had found true love and from the things that Wes has said about her there's no way she could still feel that way.

I was really happy to see Ed come back, and I had sort of rooted for him from the start. Reid is a bit neurotic, and I can see Jillian getting sick of that after a while--but maybe they balance out well. Anyway, I like them both and hope that they are the final two.

I hate myself for being so addicted to this show.

Chris, Can you tell us whether the producers are making Jillian keep Wes on the show?

I'm starting to wonder if it is all in the editing!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just read that this girlfriend of Wes Laurel said that she thinks the show paid Jake to come back on and say that about Wes. First I don't believe the show would do that, but for sure I don't believe that Jake is the type of guy that would let money speak for him if something wasn't the truth, he seems to be genuine with alot of character to him. There are so many untrue things being said which is very unfortunate. Jake stepped up to the plate and look what Mr. nice guy gets for it all. I wish there was a way after these shows of matching girls up with the men that aren't picked. They should come up with an after show like that.
Wish I knew how someone could get invited to the men tell all show. Tom Bergeron lives behind my gates, maybe he knows you and I can get my daughter to the men tell all showing. So many people come up to my daughter saying she should be on the show, but she doesn't want to make it about her looks thats why she refuses to model.
I didn't think the drama and rumors could surpass last season with Jason, but it seems this season has a lot of negative things being said, what a shame. I'm sure it frustrates you too.

I have to say I watched the Bachelor every week and so wanted Jason to pick Jillian when he didn't and I found out she was to be the next bachelorette I was so happy (maybe because I am a Canadian girl as well) when Jake was shown the very first time he was my favorite to win Jillian's heart, after their first one on one date I would have bet a whole lot of money on him being the final guy she chose??? what do I know! (so my vote is for Jake to be the next Bachelor) what realy gets me mad is that Wes is still there what is Jillian thinking?? first he isn't attractive at all, he seems like a snake in the grass, slimeball, yuck is all I have to say, and for Jillian to believe him over Jake... I don't get it! I really want Jillian to find happiness and her true love. I said that if Wes was picked and Jake wasn't that was it I was finished watching, but if truth be told I have to find out who she picks in the end. Good luck Jillian and I hope you find what/who you are looking for (as long as it isn't Wes!)

I think Jake did do the honorable thing in trying to "rescue" poor, naive Jillian from Wes' spell- especially since he took the risk of the humiliation that unfortunately played out. Hope he and Michael are strongly considered for the next bachelor. I hope that the final two are Ed and Reid. Jillian seems most comfortable with them. She is obviously physically attracted to Kip, but I don't see a "forever" with him and his "all too perfect" family.

Michael was the most annoying guy on the show!!! He is immature, young and clueless.......he would be the worst choice ever for Bachelor!!!! He acts like a 9yr old boy. How was he ever picked??!!
The only other guy I can't wait to see leave is Wes...did not like him from day one.
Reid is darling but Ed is my favorite!
Jake is ok for bachelor but Michael is TERRIBLE choice.......goofy boy experiencing puppy love is not recipe for serious romance and good tv.

Michael is too young and obviously has no experience in love. The only reason he was chosen is because he was safe - no sexual chemistry happening there. I don't blame Jillian for finding no attraction. He was very immature and seemed younger than 25.

Wes is a dirt ball and would not have chosen him past the first rose ceremony.

Love that Ed is back! He is marriage material!!

Kipton is hot but not into Jillian or getting married. I agree with you Chris when you say red flags that she does not think she is good enough. On different levels and need to be on the same level.

Does Reid want to marry a Jewish girl? Wondering why they have not discussed religions and raising children? Jillian also seems to have too much energy for him.

Thoroughly entertaining blog, Chris. The Bachelor/rette contacts are circling around your engaging personality. I saw the teaser preview clip where you are comforting Jillian in what looks like the final episode. The relationship you have with her & other Bachelor/ettes is almost God-like/big brother; I absolutely love Jillian but I have become an even bigger fan of you as host. You make the show more real.

I was struck with Jillian's commentary after Kiptyn's hometown date saying that she didn't mind the questions from his mother. I don't know if this was totally straight up. Though Jillian was quite accepting of the mom-in-law undercurrent -- hats off to her -- she seemed uneasy. I would have been asking for a change of underwear. Also there was nothing made of a sort of confessional with Kip where I was sure he must have asked. And nothing was very warm about their hot-tub time together. Her concluding comments in the segment of saying that she fit in to all of the final 5 guys' families left me doubtful. A wine test on the cabana of a California beach-front property would make a small-town girl pause & take a deep snarf of the spirits in the glass. She handled this situation with poise, but yes, I think she had to wonder if she fit into Kiptyn's family picture. I also don't see the connection between she and Kiptyn progressing though there is a lot of physical chemistry between them. For me, he's mysterious, almost untouchable. I don't get a sense of who he really is. Is this on the editing room floor?

Reid 'not having anything on Christmas mornings' : Jillian & he haven't had the religious faith conversation or is it taboo and also left out? Along with an admitted history by his brothers of non-commitment, I say they don't have an ultimate hook-up. He is however very telegenic and personable.

My vote is Ed. We had plenty of footage of Jillian's heartbreak when he left. The stage is set for his real comeback. Adorable with a shy, sweet confidence, I need to see what his attraction to Jillian is really all about. I admire him for his perceptiveness. We hear him most in outtake comments of other suitors' personalities and predictions on who Jillian will prefer. I hope he catches a wave in Spain, sweeps her off her feet. Goodbye to Wes and his career with women fans. Yup. shoulda checked in with your publicity department. But then this is reality TV. You got me. I'm hooked.

can't wait to read your next blog.

First of all I loved Michael and I would love to see him as the next Bachelor. I really think Jake is a good guy but I was glad when he left the show. I found him to be a little corny and not at all free spirited like Jillian. I think people are a little hard on Jillian over the whole Wes thing. I can't stand the guy but that's because we got to hear and see him when Jillian wasn't around. She got to see the Wes who was charming and plus she grew up in Alberta so she loves the country in him..she is a polished hick right? I think Jillian will let Wes go this week and put us all out of our misery. I'm sure we will all be happy with the end result of the show.

I really enjoyed your blog and can't wait to read the next one.

I ascan see why Jillian kept Wes around for so long, but, i don't understand how he can not feel ashamed with his mother, sisters and father watching let alon his band.... Wes is dead inside

As I watch Jillian I can't enjoy how she responds to each man. She talks so fast and does not seem warm and feminine. Mostly silly and not serious about each one she is with. She likes to kiss and snuggle, which seems like teen agers and never talk about their lives together in a real way. She was just curious about Wes as a star, not to be her husband. She played him and got to see his band, etc.

re: If Reid wants to marry a Jewish girl; <<<<

>>>>>I think Reid himself is Jewish.<<<<<

Yes, but is Jillian Jewish? She looks a bit Jewish, but her mom sure doesn't. She may be Italian?

How come religion is never discussed - especially if a romance is between someone who's Jewish and someone who is Christian. Or someone who is Catholic and someone who isn't. Those are "big deals" to couples - even if they aren't "religious" once they marry and have children (family pressures, church attendance, raising the kids, etc). Ask how I know.... :)

Anonymous said...

Maybe there was a religion question amongst Jillian's mom's list? If so, I wonder why that wasn't aired. I'm glad that Jillian's mom asked about having kids...but I wish she'd also had asked "when" would you like to have kids...because many guys "say" they want kids, but when asked "when," they perpetually keep putting it off until "later" adding more and more excuses (we need to have more money saved, we need to have more fun first, I'm not ready for the obligations, etc)....and the woman waits and waits and then has fertility issues.

How about morals? Doesen't anyone care anymore? Why does religeon matter if one so freely goes to bed with several men. Our choice is to seek God first into our lives. Then relationships will work and future family living will seek also a church to help couples stay together. If there is no church then read the bible and find the truth to reach God and find out how to live a victorious life.
